The steel city of Jamshedpur will soon have air connectivity under the Union government’s Udaan scheme, a senior East Singhbhum district official said on Friday. Air services between Jamshedpur-Kolkata.and Jamshedpur-Bhubaneswar are likely to start from October 30 with a nine-seater aircraft from Sonari Airport, said Additional District Magistrate (Law and Order), Nandkishore Lal. Deputy Development Commissioner Saurabh Sinha and Lal along with airport officials, fire brigade officials, Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee representative and Traffic DySP Kamal Kishore held a meeting on the issue and discussed security and fire measures. “We have trained 49 security personnel who will be deployed at the airport and 12 of them are already providing their services,” the officer added. Earlier airlines including MDLR, Vayudoot and Deccan Airways started flights to nearby cities like Kolkata and Ranchi from Sonari Airport with small aircraft but eventually stopped the services. Meanwhile, the BJP claimed that the proposed launch of air services from Jamshedpur was a result of a meeting between the Union Civil Aviation Minister. Jyotiraditya Scindia and its leader Kunal Sarangi, the spokesperson of the BJP, recently commented on the issue. On the sidelines of the inauguration of Deoghar Airport by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 12, Sarangi said in a press statement that he had submitted a memorandum to Scindia urging him to start air transport by chartered aircraft under the government’s Udaan scheme from the steel city to the big Jamshedpur Airport is the industrial capital of Jharkhand and in the era of globalization, it was necessary to have aviation facilities, Sarangi said.

Referring to the proposed new airport at Dhalbhumgarh, about 55 km away, under Ghatsila division, Sarangi said a Memorandum of Understanding between the Airports Authority of India and the Jharkhand government had been signed to construct the airport in 2019, but no progress had been made. yet. The foundation stone of Dhalbhumgarh Airport was laid in January 2019.
