A video of a SpiceJet flight cabin filled with smoke has surfaced online. The video purportedly shows passengers sitting in a smoky cabin of a Goa-Hyderabad flight that made an emergency landing in Hyderabad on October 14, 2022. The incident occurred with the airline’s Q400 aircraft and the passengers safely exited the flight using the aircraft’s emergency exit. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has ordered an inquiry into the incident. There had previously been allegations that airline staff had taken no action, which the new video appears to confirm.
The passenger shared the video on Twitter under the name Vivek Vishal with the caption, “SpiceJet is risking people’s lives, we were suffocating for 25 minutes and even oxygen masks were not on. Strict action should be taken against such a negligent airline.” The passenger also tagged Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditaya Scindia and DGCA in his tweet.
The video shows the cabin of a SpiceJet flight filled with smoke while the sound of alarms can be heard in the background. One of the crew can be heard screaming at the top of her lungs, though it’s not clear what she’s saying. Meanwhile, passengers on the plane are seen sitting with their heads down in the smoke-filled cabin. Along with the videos, the post also had two blurry images.
Earlier, one of the passengers named Srikanth Mulupala tweeted, “We were returning to Hyderabad from Goa. The flight from Nagpur to Hyderabad suddenly had smoke everywhere… It took 20 minutes from there. Passengers were suffering and fainted with fear. Luckily we landed alive and fine… But what if something happens and who is to blame, it clearly happened due to the negligence of the crew and the department concerned.’
